KATHMANDU. 19 July: The bilateral labor selection process between Nepal and Israel achieved a major milestone on Thursday, July 16, 2026, with the successful conclusion of a transparent, live-broadcasted lottery to select Nepali auxiliary workers for Israel’s caregiving sector.
The lottery, designed to ensure maximum integrity and public confidence, was conducted at the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) Office in Jerusalem. To maintain strict fairness, the event was witnessed by senior Israeli officials, representatives from the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) of the Government of Nepal, and members of the media who monitored the proceedings live.
The Selection Breakdown
A total of 1,115 qualified candidates made it to the final lottery pool, consisting of 784 male and 331 female applicants. Adhering to the predetermined selection criteria, exactly 75% of the candidates from each gender category were chosen.
- Total Pool: 1,115 candidates
- Total Selected: 836 candidates (matching the 75% selection rate across both male and female brackets)
Next Steps for Selected Workers
The 836 selected candidates are not yet clear to fly; they must now clear the final phases of the recruitment protocol. This includes comprehensive medical examinations and thorough criminal record verifications.
Candidates who are confirmed medically fit and have a clean legal record will begin deploying to Israel in consecutive batches starting September 2026. Under the official bilateral agreement, these Nepali auxiliary workers are legally guaranteed the same minimum wage and employment protections as local Israeli citizens.
More Opportunities on the Horizon
The successful lottery marks just the beginning of expanding labor ties between the two nations. Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, H.E. Shmulik Arie Bass, revealed that thousands of additional placements are currently in the pipeline.
“More than 2,100 additional employment opportunities in Israel’s caregiving sector are expected to open soon,” Ambassador Bass stated. “Furthermore, Israel and Nepal are finalizing two bilateral protocol agreements on ‘Home-based Caregiving’ and ‘Agricultural Workers,’ where many opportunities await Nepali workers.”
Both governments have reiterated their long-term commitment to a recruitment pipeline built entirely on the pillars of transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity, eliminating the middleman frictions traditionally associated with foreign employment.
